Garde d'enfants à domicile en anglais

English childcare services in paris

21 mars 2018

Our teachers use a wide variety of techniques to teach children how to speak English.

Each qualified childcarer applies a fun and educational method to suit each child’s needs. Both babysitters and teachers propose a range of activities to children that include songs, games, verbal and worksheet based exercises. For our teachers, they follow a dedicated and Oxford University approved course. This method allows teachers to use a series of lesson plans in addition to other materials from Le Repertoire de Gaspard’s library.

The key aspect to all our English learning is to ensure that children acquire the language within a safe and secure environment whilst having fun. All activities are split into four main areas of learning:

- Artistic activities to help children visualise what they are learning or to hear it from songs.

- Linguistic activities to reinforce their comprehension and oral expressions. This would include games, stories and songs.

- Cultural trips out to a museum, library or gallery; cookery sessions to learn about food from another country; music al activities if the babysitter and child can play an instrument or sports activities swimming.

Total Physical Response (TPR) is one of the most important teaching approaches which can be adapted to a various number of teaching situations, and children really have fun doing it. It helps practise vocabulary connected with actions, tenses, imperatives and instructions and even storytelling. It can be combined with the techniques of singing and dancing; English songs and nursery rhymes for pre-schoolers should be included in almost every theme.

As every child is different and develops at a different rate, all our babysitters and teachers make sure they tailor activities accordingly to the child/children’s needs. And by incorporating English language into daily activities and hobbies, children can learn English without even realising!

Most of our children are aged from 0 to 11 so we  adapt our sessions accordingly.

Teaching English to young learners (0 to 7) is through action-based activities, playing games, singing and dancing; for slightly older children, storytelling, role play and dramatization techniques are used.

Methods of drawing and conversation are very effective; you teach new vocabulary by showing pictures, flashcards or other visuals, by talking about given topics (try to use English as much as possible) and the children are learning by listening, looking at pictures, drawing, colouring and eventually talking.

Young learners ages 0 to 3

This stage is all about listening and comprehension, building awareness of a new language, becoming familiar with having a foreigner and a foreign language in the home. Children are like sponges and may start to response with repeating some words – especially the 3 year olds but the key is not to force them and to make activities enjoyable and memorable for them.

By starting early, your child will have all chances to be bilingual, or even trilingual. Learning is acquired from the beginning by a regular practice and training at the memory.  Essential behaviours are developed: curiosity, listening, attention, memory, confidence in the use of another language.

Beginner level ages 4 to 7

Children are starting to be more aware of their surrounding, words and phrases. Comprehension is still a vital component in the learning stage and children tend to build their understanding –often they will be able to understand the childcarer’s instructions but answer in French before eventually formulating their responses in English. Children will start to develop their range of vocabulary and pronunciation skills. They will be able to start to complete basic language worksheets to accompany them on their mission. Our active and innovative way means that your child will distinguish between sounds and words through phonic exercises and learn vocabulary relevant to their age and interests.

Intermediate level ages 8 to 11

Children are more involved with homework based activities and cultural trips to museums and galleries catered to their age. A mix of drama, cookery and craft based work can stimulate their language learning and create a fun and educational addition to their learning at school.

The main benefit is for the children to learn from an English speaker who can provide them with a valuable human and cultural approach to learning a language within their daily routines. The younger they start, the easier it becomes for them to appreciate another language and to understand the importance of speaking several languages in today’s economy.

Learning English will help children to develop key learning components such as: memorisation, confidence in using another language, attention, listening and speaking skills.

All our employees are followed throughout their mission to ensure they carry out the best level of work. We carry out obligatory training for all employees, regular visits while they are at work, provide them with access to a range of materials from our library, seasonal activity booklets we produce, regular email and Facebook updates and a bi-monthly newsletter to equip them with ideas.

On completion of each academic session with a babysitter or teacher, the child will receive a certificate to outline their achievement.
