Are you thinking of moving to “The City of Lights” or have you just arrived in Paris and you are wondering how to find affordable accommodation? This article is for you!
Affordable Accommodation Partnerships – Les Foyers
Le Repertoire de Gaspard has many partnerships with multiple residences all over Paris. A residence is commonly referred to as a foyer in French. If you would like to live in a residence, you can let us know and we will do our best to find a place close to your family or to our agency, also you can learn more about the arrondissements in Paris by clicking here and making sure you are following these steps here
Pros:
- Safe and secure
- Perfect to meet new people
Cons:
- You might need to share a room
PAP
Pap is a reliable website for finding affordable accommodation and if you don’t want to pay the fees of a real estate agency. The announcements that you will find on this website are posted by private individuals. PAP is the solution for you if you like to live alone or if you are looking for a place with a friend or with your dear one. You can find nice studio apartments, the cost of which depends on the size of the apartment.
Pros:
- No agency fees
- Perfect if you are looking for a small studio
- If you are looking for a place with a friend
Cons:
- Possible scams
- High demand
Appartager
If you like to live with other people, “Appartager” can be a good solution to find a flatshare in Paris. Again, you don’t need to go through an agency for renting a place. This website is mostly used by people that need to find a new flatmate or that would like to share their apartment. If you would like to see what accommodation options are available, check out the website here.
Pros:
- Reasonable prices
- Perfect if you don’t like to live in a small studio
Cons
- Possible scams
- High demand
- It might be difficult to live with the landlord
La Carte des Colocs
« La Carte des colocs » uses the same principle as « Appartager ». It is a website created by a group of young people that realized how difficult it is to find accommodation in Paris. The website is user-friendly, each apartment has photos, a description of the apartment, and an introduction of the people who live there.
You can also check here on to find Virginia’s guide on finding accommodation.
Pros
- Excellent quality/price ratio
- Perfect if you don’t like to live in a small studio
- Perfect to meet new people
Cons
- High demand
- Potential Scams
Relais Accueil
Relais Accueil offers two options: you can live in a residence if you are 25 years old and younger or you can live in a shared apartment (en colocation).
Relais Accueil is without a doubt the best place to find affordable accommodation. I used this option, and I can’t be happier. A lot of paperwork is required in order to benefit from a place, therefore, I suggest starting the process as soon as you know that you are going to move to Paris.
Pros
- Excellent quality/price ratio
- Perfect to meet new people
- Big apartment in Paris
- Le Répertoire de Gaspard has personal connections to this organization 🙂
Cons:
- A lot of paperwork
- The waiting list can be long
- Maximum stay: 3 years
Last tip: always be aware of scams. Don’t send any money beforehand.
